"Happy Easter 2015"
Easter is here, the most treasured holiday of the christian faith, or at least it ought to be. We celebrate the resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
And If the resurrection didn't happen then we of all people are the most to be pitied (2 Corinthians 15:19) .
One of the most amazing miracles at that time is how Someone who never wrote a single line, ruled any country or own any type of property could start a movement with such a force that would change the world forever. And this is over 2000 years ago, there was no internet, TV, radio, etc.
His own disciples and people that were converted to this movement were gladly giving away their possessions (Acts 2:45) and even their own lives, to this carpenter of Nazareth.
It is a miracle that the movement survived the first century (with the invasion and destruction of Jerusalem) and the dispersion of all who believed in His name, while being persecuted and martyred.
Well, let me give you a little history so you can see how this develops.
The creator of the universe- God the father, created man, but man rebelled against his creator (Genesis 3:6-7) from the beginning and to the present. All men according to the Bible are sinners (Romans 3:23, Proverbs 20:9) and because God is Holy then man has no place with Him (Isaiah 40:17).
The history of Redemption develops throughout the ages. It starts with Israel, God's chosen people, a tiny little nation always surrounded by it's own enemies but God had a plan for it. It is amazing to see how many cultures and nations after being dispersed for more than one or two generations have completely disappeared. Not Israel, they have been put to the test for millennia, with invasions, countless wars, dispersions, exiles, exodus, and even God's own wrath (Isaiah 43:18-25) after they rebelled to Him countless times, but God was faithful to preserve them for a reason.
Our Creator had enough compassion on this nation and on humanity that He wanted to send a perfect Redeemer to pay the price that men could never pay. Because of God's character and His infinite attributes; one of them being a just Judge, His wrath had to be appeased. A price had to be paid. Only the Judge Himself could've paid that debt Himself by sending His own Son to die for the people that rejected Him and hung Him on that tree. This is amazing, who could've come up with this plot?!? Not even Hollywood!
Jesus our Messiah was prophesized from the beginning at the garden of Eden (Genesis 3:15) and even thousands of years later with small details, from the suffering servant in Isaiah 53 to Jeremiah 23 and many more. No one ever has been able to disproof anything that the Bible has to say historically or scientifically.
And let's even look at all the scientific facts that the Bible had thousands of years before people knew about them :
-Earth is a sphere (Isaiah 40:22)
-Incalculable number of stars (Jeremiah 33:22)
-Earth's free standing in space (Job 26:7)
-Each star is different (1 Corinthians 15:41) and many more.
Well, I got a little side tracked but I wanted to emphasized on what Easter means and what do we do from now on, what must men do to acquaint himself with God. First, if you are not a believer or part of the family of God the Bible says that the Kingdom of God is at hand, you must repent and believe in the Gospel of Christ (Mark 1:15). We must deny ourselves , take up our cross and follow Him, it seems small for what He did for us. The world today with all it's universalism and humanism has displaced the way of understanding life with a whole different perspective, completely absent of ABSOLUTE TRUTH. Everything is relative now. The Bible says that one day all of us will stand before a Holy God and will give an account of our lives (Revelation 20:12).
If you are a believer then this holiday means so much more to you like the way it does to me. The gratitude and knowledge of God does not only come by studying the Word of God on your own or going to a church building once a week (that does help by the way), the Bible says that we must see heaven open and have a transforming vision of God (the way Daniel did and fall to his face), see His Majesty, study His attributes, know Him through His Spirit and have communion daily. Job understood that when he said : "I had heard of You by hearing, but now my eye sees You" (Job 42:5).
Let us faithfully serve this good King for just this small season called life (James 4:14), let us extol Him continually, praise His Greatness, Dignity and Power. Amen.
